EWC - VI Regular Meeting - October 29, 2002 - Communique

The sixth Regular Meeting of the IBM European Works Council took place on October 29, 2002 in Brussels Belgium.

The meeting was preceded by a preparatory meeting of employee representatives the day before.

Employee representatives from 14 European countries representing over 99000 employees participated in the meeting.

The agenda of the regular meeting included :

On the current business and resource situation the employee representatives expressed their view that also during weak market conditions the management should ensure the long-term success of IBM by investing to developing the skills of the existing workfo rce. For the ongoing acquisitions and transfers of employees the representatives expressed their concern for securing both job places and conditions in very dynamically changing company structure.

The meeting also agreed the amendments of IBM EWC agreement, signed 28.6.1999 and now in force until 2009, which improve the information and consultation processes. The amended Agreement was signed at the end of meeting by Secretary and Deputy Secretary, on behalf of the EWC representatives, and by Mr. Stevens, on behalf of IBM management. The amendments will come into effect on January 1, 2003.
